Rick Hannah – projects
Rick Hannah | Ulli Bartel
Rick joins violinist Ulli Bartel in Duo format, offering a unique sonic blend of two instruments that are rarely heard together, especially without a back-up rhythm section. From the roots of Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti through Stuff Smith and new compositions, the Duo offers a broad musical experience.
A graduate of Berklee School of Music, Ulli Bartel is a Berlin mainstay. He is also part of the Ulli Bartel/Lorenz Boesche Quintett and the Allan Praskin/Ulli Bartel Quartett. He has performed with Herb Geller, Jimmy Cobb, Jackie Terrasson among many other notable jazzmen.

2-Man Jazz Band
Rick together with pianist Erwin Siffer create a Guitar-Piano DUO format, free flying without a rhythm section, as the role of melody and accompaniment flows back and forth from player to player in a cohesive, coordinated presentation of musical dialogue. Their latest CD features compositions offered by both artists, along with new arrangements of selected standards, and a special emphasis on the music of Lennie Tristano and his band-mates Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh.
“2-Man Jazz Band is a fine example of musical rapport, technical finesse and high musicianship.”

Handful of Strings
Following in the spirit of the great Joe Pass, Rick Hannah offers a new rendition of the rare art of Solo Jazz Guitar, playing a choice of standards along with two original compositions. Using a variety of guitars, Rick offers a wide palette of possibilities that show the complexity, versatility and beautiful sonorities of the acoustic-electric guitar.
“Handful Of Strings contains much impressive technical playing, but Hannah's prodigious technique always serves the music. Somewhere, Joe Pass is smiling...”
